– Edmunds.com
“An interior design… that beautifully complements the clean, contemporary exterior.”
– Car & Driver
“Blistering acceleration, brilliant ride and handling, and a cockpit that’s among the prettiest in the business.”

– WardsAuto.com
“Infiniti…has created a hardtop convertible G37 that has lost almost none of its elegant coupe sibling’s visual appeal.”
–Automobile Magazine
“At the touch of a button, the G37 becomes one of the most sensuous-looking convertibles on the market”
–Road and Track
“The G37 Convertible is…well-engineered, nicely constructed, offers lots of creature features, and the top works as it should. It can be trimmed and optioned to be casually elegant or fairly aggressive. If you want a rear-drive luxury convertible that doubles as a secure, all-weather, everyday car, it’s just about your only choice. Well, this or a BMW 3- Series.”
– Motor Trend
“The headrest-mounted speakers make it possible to leave the stereo at a normal volume with the top down, so conversations with a passenger don't become a shouting match.”
–Automobile Magazine
“the VQ's exhaust note is intoxicating, and it's nice to have that sound fill the cabin.”
– Automobile Magazine
“Unlike traditional folding hard top convertibles, the G37 doesn’t sacrifice its looks.”
– Jalopnik
“the engine has a high level of refinement and the precision of a Swiss clock”
– WardsAuto.com
“Bottom Line: This is an exceptional, well-thought out, high-quality automobile in absolutely every respect. It’s beautiful, fast, luxurious and comfortable. If you love
convertibles like I do. Drive the Infiniti G37, and you’ll want one too.”

2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible - First Drive Review

The seductive sports coupe pops its top and embraces the open air.
BY AARON ROBINSON
March 2009
Slicing the roof off a slinky coupe such as the 10Best-winning Infiniti G37 is fraught with danger. A graceful corner-eater can be wrecked by the added weight of structural reinforcements and pulled like taffy to package the folding roof. But as long ago as last August, when Nissan design chief Shiro Nakamura showed the first alluring pictures of the Infiniti G37 convertible, we suspected Infiniti had preserved its best looker.
Nakamura’s accomplishment has been to throw out the roof while keeping the rest of the hot bod. In the G37, the muscular shoulders, the short overhangs, and the flat, athletic beltline are all still there. Infiniti proudly proclaims that the convertible is just 0.2-inch longer than the coupe, even though all the sheetmetal behind the seats is unique to the convertible. So far we’re cheering.
Ready, Set, Compromise
Then the roof goes down with a button push and we see why coupes tend to balloon in the top-cutting process. In a seamless, 30-second ballet of pirouetting panels and tumbling glass, the G37’s steel roof, engineered and supplied by Germany’s Karmann Group, efficiently fractures into three sections and stacks in the trunk. And then the trunk is full, stuffed like a steel egg roll. There’s barely enough room for a Subway foot-long once the G37’s top is stowed. The BMW 328i convertible, base-priced right where the G37 convertible should land at around $45,000, leaves behind more useable space.
Specifications
VEHICLE TYPE: front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 4-passenger, 2-door convertible
ESTIMATED BASE PRICE: $45,000
ENGINE TYPE: DOHC 24-valve V-6, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection
Displacement: 226 cu in, 3696cc
Power (SAE net): 325 bhp @ 7000 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 267 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm
TRANSMISSION: 7-speed automatic with manumatic shifting, 6-speed manual
DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 112.2 in Length: 183.3 in Width: 72.9 in Height: 55.1 in Curb weight (mfr’s est): 4100 lb
PERFORMANCE (C/D EST):
Zero to 60 mph: 5.6 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 13.8 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.0 sec @ 101 mph
FUEL ECONOMY (MFR’S EST):
EPA city/highway driving: 16–17/24–25 mpg
Ah, trade-offs. Another biggie is the 450 or so pounds added to the G37’s curb weight as Nissan welded in gussets and braces to preserve the coupe’s sporty stiffness. Although heavy, the reinforcements work. The G37 convertible exhibits only slight shivers over the rough stuff and the convertible arcs through corners with the same balanced aplomb as the coupe. It still bolts hard under full throttle, although the extra pounds will no doubt add a few tenths to the coupe’s 5.3-second 0-to-60-mph sprints.
Power + Technology = Fun in the Sun
The sonorous 3.7-liter DOHC V-6 carries over from the coupe, with peak output of 325 hp coming in five less than the hardtop’s thanks to some exhaust changes. A seven-speed automatic will be the popular transmission, while a six-speed manual is available only with the Sport package, which also includes 19-inch wheels, summer tires, a quicker steering ratio, more sportif interior trim, and a revised front bumper. Get the automatic with the Sport pack and the steering wheel sprouts magnesium shift paddles. All-wheel drive, however, will not be offered due to the extra weight and cost.
Like many luxury convertibles, the G37 droptop boasts a few technologies intended to smooth over the differences between top-up and top-down driving. The Premium package (not available with the Sport pack) includes a 13-speaker Bose “Open-Air Audio” system with noise-compensating software and headrest-mounted speakers, which change their sound signature depending on the roof’s position. Similarly, the climate-control system self-adjusts the fan speed and temperature in accordance with the car’s speed, the ambient temperature, and the top position. The goal is to keep you cooler when it’s hot and warmer when it’s cold.
Of the four-seat droptops, BMW’s 3-series convertible is still a killer with its benchmark dynamics, a choice of two ultra-smooth inline sixes, and a folding hardtop that leaves useable space in the trunk. It feels a bit stiffer, too. But the G37 offers more horsepower and luxury, dollar for dollar, than the Bimmer. And Shiro’s convertible is definitely a knockout in the design department.

First-ever Infiniti G Convertible Set For Spring 2009 Launch in North America

Infiniti today unveiled the latest expression of its “Inspired Performance,” the all-new 2009 Infiniti G Convertible, at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The first-ever Infiniti G Convertible builds upon the performance legacy of the Infiniti G line, with the liberation only a convertible with the top down can provide. It is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti dealers in North America in the spring of 2009, followed later in other Infiniti markets around the world.

“Designed to rejuvenate the spirit, the G Convertible adds an open-air soundtrack to the G’s legendary driving exhilaration,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, speaking before automotive media at the vehicle’s world debut. “This new G has dual beauty – it looks as good with the top up or down – along with a beautiful, leather-appointed interior that is meant to be experienced wide-open.”
